What can your children learn through block play?
An entire blog should be devoted just to that topic. At Teachers College when I was studying early childhood education, several professors made the bold claim that every elementary classroom in the country should have block shelf and use it regularly. The more I observe children using blocks the more I agree. Children constantly experiment while building. Every unintended crash, every constructed castle, every winding balance beam teaches children more than we will ever accurately calculate. They develop creativity, problem-solving, math and science skills, social and emotional skills, a clearer understanding of social studies topics, fine and gross motor abilities, literacy, and engineering principles all at the same time.
